Luxury Holidays - Ethiopia

County Information

Not the first destination that springs to mind when planning a holiday; Ethiopia however is a destination filled with historic treasures, ranging from the ancient tombs and obelisks of Aksum to 17th-century castles and burnt-out Russian tanks. Its' landscapes are no less dramatic, from the Simien Mountains National Park to the Bale Mountain National Park. Ethiopia is awe-inspiring and heartbreaking, yet pleasantly rewarding, a journey you will never forget.

Ethiopia is a culturally and scenically distinct nation, home to orthodox Christians. Never formally colonised by a western power, it has the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites of any African country. It is best known for the historical locations in the north, including the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, the vibrant and historical city of Axum (the obelisks of Axum), supposedly home to the Queen of Sheba and the Ark of the Covenant, the Simien Mountains and its colourful abundance of wildlife including the native Gelada monkey.

Ethiopia is a treasure trove for those interested in ancient history, with an endless offering of sites to see a perfect destination for those looking for a new escorted tour, cultural and historic tour destination. Ethiopia is also great for hiking and cycling holidays, having some of the worlds breathtaking natural landscapes.
